British IT Firm Opens Office in Chevy Chase, Maryland;
Move Marks Milestone for Greater Washington Initiative
September 13, 2005; WASHINGTON , DC — Tessella Support Services plc, a British information technology company, has expanded into the region with the opening of Tessella Inc. in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Tessella is the 20th company brought to the region this year by the Greater Washington Initiative.
Tessella (www.tessella.com) is part of the Lockheed Martin team that last week won a $308 million, six-year contract to build the Electronic Records Archives system for the National Archives and Records Administration.
Founded in 1980, Tessella is headquartered in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, with offices in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands and the U.S. Tessella specializes in the application of innovative software solutions to scientific, technical and engineering problems.
“This investment decision, our second office in the U.S., was a compelling one due to the convergence of high technology customers with complex R&D requirements, the potential of the Federal market, and the high quality of life in the region,” says Grant Steven, CEO for Tessella Inc. in the United States.
With 20 companies brought to the region by Greater Washington Initiative (GWI), the organization is on pace to surpass a record of 23 companies set in 2000.
“The decision by Tessella to locate in Chevy Chase demonstrates GWI’s continuing success in attracting international companies to the Washington area,” says William Couper, GWI chairman and president, Mid-Atlantic, Bank of America.
