18th October Conference in London to Focus on How U.K. Technology Firms Can Win Contracts with the U.S. Government

WASHINGTON , DC; 27 September 2005 – U.K. Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the Greater Washington Initiative (GWI) will host a half-day conference in  London, England, on Tuesday, 18 October, on how small- and medium-sized British technology companies can win contracts with the U.S. Government , the world's largest buyer of technology.

U.S. Government spending on technology is projected to increase from £32 billion ($58 billion) in 2005 to £41 billion ($74 billion) in 2009, with more than half of this spending earmarked for the U.S. military and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Among the featured speakers will be Richard Higgs, CEO,  of Strategic Thought Group, a London-based firm that developed “ARM”, an Active Risk Manager Software product.  The company opened a Washington, DC area office last December.  Its customers include major U.S. defence contractors such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman as well as U.S. government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The company’s most recent deal, worth $1.7 million, was signed by NASA earlier this month.

Other speakers will focus on how to:

  • Identify the technology procurement officials in each U.S. Government agency.
  • Find the best tools for tracking U.S. Government bids and contracts.
  • Take advantage of assistance provided by UKTI and GWI.
  • Participate in FOSE 7-9 March 2006 in Washington, DC, the largest technology trade show for U.S. Government buyers.
  • The conference will be held at the Cabinet War Rooms, Clive Steps, King Charles Street, beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Advance registration is required.  The registration fee is £55 per person and includes VAT, light breakfast and lunch, and a complimentary copy of the 2005 U.S. Federal Technology Almanac.
