Size: 399 square miles

Fairfax County is an international business and technology center. It is home to more than 4,000 technology companies and among the 22,000 other businesses are corporate and regional headquarters, trade and professional associations, and business and financial services firms. More than 210 foreign-owned companies have offices in Fairfax County. The county has five Fortune 500 companies: Capital One Financial Corporation, Freddie Mac, Gannet Co., General Dynamics, Nextel and Sallie Mae. The county ranks among the largest suburban office markets in the country with about 95 million square feet of office space.

Fairfax County also is a great place to live. The public school system, police and fire and rescue departments are ranked among the nations finest. Two performing arts centers, including the nation's only national park for the performing arts, are here. So are 30,000 acres of parkland. The federal government, scores of foreign embassies and international organizations, and a wide variety of cultural and recreational opportunities are minutes away in Washington, DC.
