Greater Washington Economy Attracts International, U.S. Firms
January 4, 2006; Washington, DC – Greater Washington’s economy experienced another year of significant growth in 2005. One indicator of this trend is the number of companies that expand into or relocated to the region.
The Greater Washington Initiative (GWI), the region’s economic development marketing organization, recruits and assists firms interested in the Greater Washington region. In 2005, GWI directly assisted 28 companies with expansion and relocation to the region , surpassing a record of 23 companies set in 2000. Of the 28 firms, 20 were international. More than half of these firms came from the United Kingdom; other firms came to the region from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Germany, and Brazil.
Throughout the year GWI hosts international and domestic forums to promote the region as well as educate business leaders about the benefits of working with the Federal Government. Currently, the business development team is actively assisting 158 leads and prospects.
“This region remains a very attractive location, especially for firms that want to do business with the federal government,” said GWI Executive Director Tim Priest. “Companies are not only drawn to the business opportunities here, but also to the area’s outstanding quality of life from award-winning schools, to parks, outdoor recreation and cultural options.”
See below for a list of new firms that GWI brought to the Greater Washington region.
