Greater Washington Initiative Announces New Partners and Representatives
July 28, 2005; WASHINGTON , DC – Over the past few months, the Greater Washington Initiative (GWI), the region’s economic development marketing organization, gained a number of new partners. The law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP recently joined the Board of Trustees of the Greater Washington Initiative (GWI). Partner Gregory J. Ewald will represent the firm. And Nextel Communications, represented by Nick Sample, director of wireless data, has joined GWI’s Advisory Council.

We appreciate the commitment that these firms have shown to supporting the work of GWI, including enhancing our region’s economy and providing critical research and business development services to the companies considering expansion into our market,” said GWI Chairman William Couper, president, Greater Washington, Bank of America.
Several of GWI’s longstanding partners have also appointed new representatives to the group:
New Executive Committee Representatives
Pepco Holdings, Inc. appointed William T. Torgerson, vice chairman and general counsel, to represent the company; and the District of Columbia is now represented by the Hon. Stanley Jackson, deputy mayor for the department of planning and economic development.
New Board of Trustees Representatives
The Kogod School of Business at American University has appointed Dr. Richard M. Durand, dean, to represent the school; Deloitte is now represented by Gary H. Tabach, office managing partner; and Prince George’s County, MD has appointed Alfonso Cornish, deputy chief administrative officer for governmental operations, environmental services and economic development, to represent the county.
