Diverse “Incubators and Accelerators” of Greater Washington
August 4, 2004; Washington, DC – The Greater Washington Initiative ( GWI) released an updated directory of Greater Washington business “incubators” and “accelerators”, a list of 24 unique organizations. This easy-to-use online tool highlights incubators around the region committed to supporting and encouraging business growth among entrepreneurial, young, international and new technology companies.
The Greater Washington Incubators & Accelerators Directory 2004, revised from a 2002 version, provides contact information for incubators managed by economic development offices, local universities and private businesses. New additions to the directory include the Chesapeake Innovation Center (Anne Arundel County, MD), the nation’s first incubator specializing in homeland security technology; the National Women’s Business Center (Washington, DC), the District’s only incubator dedicated to offering women business owners low-cost business training; the Silver Spring Innovation Center (Silver Spring, MD), which leased 90% of its space before its completion; and Teqcorner (McLean, VA), which offers an innovative Virtual Office Program.
“This directory provides a handy resource that new enterprises can use to locate services or office space that matches their needs,” said Thomas G. Morr, GWI Managing Partner. “By allowing firms to concentrate on cultivating their business, these incubators and accelerators play a key part in strengthening the region’s already robust economy.”
